Getting Started
Mapmory is a geo-journalling app that lets you pin personal memories — photos, notes, moods, and dates — to the exact location on Earth where they happened.
Think of it as a living, interactive diary on a map. Over time your map fills up with the places and moments that matter most to you: a first date café, a mountain peak you conquered, a tucked-away street market you stumbled upon.
Open the app and tap Sign Up on the Welcome screen. Enter your email address and a password of at least 6 characters, then tap Create Account.
We'll send a 6-digit verification code to your email within a few seconds. Enter it on the next screen to confirm your address and activate your account.
After verification you'll be guided through a quick 3-step onboarding to choose a username, add a profile photo and bio, and grant the location permission Mapmory needs to work.
Location is the heart of Mapmory. When you add a new memory the app centres the map on where you are right now, so you can drop a pin precisely at the spot without having to scroll around the world manually.
Mapmory only requests "While Using the App" permission — it never tracks you in the background. You can also tap any location on the map manually and skip GPS entirely if you prefer.
Yes! Mapmory is built with React Native and runs on both iOS (iPhone & iPad) and Android devices. Search for "Mapmory" in the App Store or Google Play Store to download the latest version.
Memories
From the Home (map) tab, tap the pink + button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. A full-screen form slides up with:
- A mini-map where you tap to drop your location pin
- A title field (required)
- Description, mood picker, date & time, photo, and notes
- A privacy toggle to keep the memory visible only to you
Fill in what you like and tap Add Memory to save. The new pin will appear on the map immediately.
Tap any memory pin on the map, or tap a memory card in the Memories tab, to open the View Memory screen.
At the bottom you'll see two action buttons: Edit Memory (pencil icon) and a Delete button (trash icon). Tapping Delete will ask you to confirm before permanently removing the memory and any attached photo.
Moods are emoji tags you can attach to a memory to capture how you felt in that moment. Choose from 15 emoji options — from 😄 to 😢 to 😎 — by tapping the one that fits.
The mood emoji also becomes the map marker icon for that memory, so your map is a vivid emotional landscape at a glance. Tap a selected mood again to deselect it.
Yes! In the Add or Edit Memory form, tap Add photo in the Media section. You can select any image from your photo library. The photo is uploaded securely and displayed on the memory's detail screen.
Currently Mapmory supports one photo per memory. To replace a photo, tap the ✕ remove button on the existing image and then add a new one.
When Private is switched on, that memory is visible only to you — it won't appear on any shared or public view. Private memories are marked with a 🔒 lock icon in your memory list and on the map.
This is enforced at the database level, not just in the app, so there is no way for other users to access your private memories even if they know the memory ID.
Yes. The Date & Time field defaults to right now, but you can edit it freely when creating or editing a memory. Tap the Now button to reset it to the current time, or the date badge to review the stored date. This lets you add memories from the past — a holiday from last year, for example — and have them appear in the correct chronological position in your list.
Map
All your memories appear as pins on the Home map whenever you open the app. You can:
- Pinch to zoom in or out to see different areas
- Tap the locate button (bottom-right, before the + button) to jump back to your current GPS position
- Use the search bar at the top to filter by title, description, or notes — the map will fly to the first matching result
The search bar on both the Home and Memories screens filters across your memory titles, descriptions, and notes in real time as you type. Matching pins stay visible on the map; non-matching ones are hidden until you clear the search.
For browsing chronologically, the Memories tab shows a full list sorted by date, newest first, with its own search bar.
Yes. Open the memory and tap Edit Memory. The mini-map at the top of the edit form shows the existing pin. Tap anywhere on the map to move the pin to a new location, then save.
Account & Privacy
Go to the Profile tab and tap Edit Profile, or open Settings → Account information. From there you can tap your avatar to pick a new photo from your library, update your username, and edit your bio. Tap Save when done.
On the Login screen, use the Forgot password? flow (coming soon — currently you can reset via the Supabase magic-link email). Alternatively, contact us at support@mapmory.world and we'll send you a password reset link immediately.
By default, new memories are public — meaning other Mapmory users can see them on the shared map. If you want a memory to stay completely private, toggle the Private switch when creating or editing it.
Your profile (username, bio, avatar) is always publicly visible so other users can find you.
Account deletion is permanent and removes all your memories, photos, and profile data. To request deletion, email us at support@mapmory.world with the subject line "Delete my account" from your registered email address. We process all deletion requests within 48 hours.
An in-app self-service deletion option is on our roadmap.
All data is stored on Supabase, which runs on AWS infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit (TLS). We never sell your personal data to third parties.
Photos and media are stored in a private object-storage bucket. Profile avatars are stored in a separate public bucket so they can be displayed in the app.
Troubleshooting
First, check that you've granted Mapmory location permission:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Mapmory → set to "While Using the App"
- Android: Settings → Apps → Mapmory → Permissions → Location → Allow only while using the app
If permission is already granted, try closing and reopening the app. On Android, also make sure GPS / Location mode is switched on at the system level.
Memories require an active internet connection to save to our servers. Check that:
- You have a working Wi-Fi or mobile data connection
- The memory has a title (the only required field)
- A location pin has been placed on the map — tap anywhere on the map in the Add Memory form to set one
If the problem persists, try logging out from Settings and logging back in to refresh your session token.
Check your spam or junk folder first — automated emails from new senders sometimes land there. If the email isn't there after a minute, tap Resend on the verification screen to request a fresh code.
Codes expire after 10 minutes. If yours has expired, go back to the Register screen and sign up again with the same email address — a new code will be sent.
Try these steps in order:
- Force-quit the app and reopen it
- Restart your device
- Check for an app update in the App Store or Play Store
- If you're on an older device, make sure your OS is up to date (Mapmory requires iOS 15+ or Android 10+)
- As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall the app — your data is stored in the cloud and will reappear when you log back in
If the problem persists, please report the issue with your device model and OS version and we'll investigate.
We love hearing from users! You can reach us through:
- In-app: Settings → Report an issue
